Position: Community Partner
Pay: $15/hour
Part-time: 6-8 hours per week on a fixed schedule (primarily afternoons)
Reliable transportation required
Qualifications:
* Organized, strong work ethic and a positive attitude
* Experience working with volunteers (required)
* Interest and/or experience working with youth
* Motivated and able to work in outdoor organic food production
* Resident of the NW Pompano area
Responsibilities:
This is a highly responsible supervisory role reporting to the Community Projects Manager, and includes:
- Assisting with mentoring and supervising the two youth interns from NW Pompano area and the related educational program.
- Implementing these core steps through the growing seasons:
* planning
* planting
* general plant care
* harvest
* maintenance and tracking the 9,000 square foot production area
* cooking and nutrition
- Growing Vegetables
- Event Planning, including:
* Assisting in planning events
* Hosting monthly visitors (ie. local restaurants owners, teachers, local business owners)
Other Duties:
* Represent NW Pompano Garden Site at select community events
* Assist in care of on-site trees
Background on The Fruitful Field experience:
The Fruitful Field work involves creating access to food that is grown using organic methods, accessible to all, and creates learning opportunities and better health for all communities. As a hands-on experience, we seek to build skills in sustainable sub-tropical agriculture practices, as well as gardening, creation care and community engagement (i.e., contact with homeless, mentally ill, and inner-city youth). The Fruitful Field experience also includes opportunities to organize field trips, community potlucks, educational seminars, group discussions and networking with other gardens and similar organizations.
