October Workday– Saturday the 15th

As promised, we will be having our next workday the third Saturday of the Month-this October 15th Temperatures are cooler, the breeze is refreshing and our vegetables are starting to grow! Come join us for work on some great projects and good snacks: Planned Projects

September 17th Workday– Planting and Growing

Keep Planting for the Fall Veggie Season!

So….Saturday September 17th we need your help to plant, weed and mulch. Snacks and light lunch provided.  Come ready to work hard as we grow food and build community.  It’s a new season and great time to be involved.

Always wanted to have your own Garden Plot? Can’t plant where you live?

Autumn Workday– August 20, 2011

Autumn in South Florida means back to school and hurricane season, BUT more importantly for The Fruitful Field it means the start of a new planting season!

Help us get things moving so we can plant all kinds of great vegetables and herbs for an abundant fall and winter growing season.

We have lots to get done so we seriously need help from as many of you as possible!!!! Flashmobs welcome!

Our Workday Super tasks:

  • Sweet Potato Harvest and Replant
  • Early Planting- radishes, beans
  • Community Plot- prep for the Fall
  • Banana and Papaya Circles Remulch
  • Plant Nursery work

So, bring along a bag or two of organic compost from Home Depot or Lowe’s and plan on joining us as we Grow, Gather and Give

July Workday: Rain, Sun and Shade

Our July workday started out with a tropical downpour but soon brightened! From visitors from Cooper City to volunteers–first-timers and regulars–we had a great day weeding, planting papaya trees, and working on garden plots.  And don’t forget lunch served by Chef Brian! And then the event 

July 9th workday and Summer Gardening workshop

Hot as blazes–fun as a cold watermelon! –Join us for your mid-summer work out. Projects of different kinds Plus from 10:00 to 10:30. Mini Workshop on growing vegetables during South Florida’s brutal summers The Fruitful Field’s Miguel Afonso will give a short presentation on growing 

New Volunteers help out in the Summer Heat!

Jorge is one of our new volunteers from Foot Print to Success Clubhouse a non-profit in Pompano Beach, just ‘down the road’ from The Fruitful Field.

Along with Anthony (below), Bill and others from the Clubhouse, we are growing a strong partnership that helps the Fruitful Field grow food for hungry people and develops gardening and work skills with the Clubhouse members.  Clubhouse volunteers join us on Wednesday mornings to help ‘Grow-Gather-Give’!

Foot Print to Success Clubhouse Mission:
Foot Print to Success Clubhouse provides a restorative community for adults with mental illnesses. The community will be a place where they can discover their own talents, develop a social network of friends and find meaningful work and education opportunities.

Friday at the Garden– Growing 5th Graders and a Plant Nursery

Friday dawned warm and tropical at The Fruitful Field and the action began with a group of volunteers arriving to set up for the arrival of 100+ 5th graders from Tedder Elementary. At 9:00 sharp they arrived ready to learn and soak up some garden

April 30th Workday – Come feed trees and plant sweet potatoes

The weather is warm, the sun bright, the trees are growing and we are having fun!

Join us for a Workday on Saturday April 30th!

Our three big projects are:

  • Finish giving our Fruit Trees the fertilizer they need to grow tall and produce sweet fruit over the summer.
  • Plant our back plots with sweet potato vines for the summer.
  • Stake Fruit Trees that are experiencing a little bit of a lean.
